Wow. What an incredible, honorable,
wonderful weekend!
Despite heavy rains, a move to a totally new venue, hours of practice and a difficult countermarch maneuver, our band was able to adapt and overcome, performing excellently with our brother and sister pipers in order to honor fallen firefighters. The massed band included over 48 pipers, and roughly 25 drummers, making this the largest massed-band ever in Emmitsburg. Congratulations and thank you to all who could attend and perform.
A special thanks to Scott Philben, who photgraphed the event for us and also managed the sale of our T-shirts at the Ott House. Final tally: we sold over 70 T-shirts, half of our order! This will contribute nicely to our uniform fund, and help get our name "out there". We'll have more to sell for upcoming events, so please talk up our shirts, and let me know if you want one or several: they are $15/each in adult S-M-L-XL, $17 for XXL. They will make great Christmas gifts!
Now, without further eloquence, on to further future endeavors. There obviously is no practice tonight, as Steve is not yet in town; besides, with a gig of such a tremendously successful magnitude, we deserve the week off. Next week, we'll be practicing for the Vienna Halloween parade, which is on Wednesday night October 26, step off at 7PM. I suspect we will forego practice on the following Monday, the 24th, two nights before the gig, but I need to get the OK from Steve. Over the next few days we'll confirm what time we need to meet before stepoff, and the potential need for practice immediately before, so please watch for further updates.
Thanks again everyone. All of your valuable contributions made Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend a memorable and successful event!
Welcome home, Steve!
