Greetings
All,
This will be a quick up date. Just bullet points for the drummers.
We had a small practice on Monday. Just Pete O'Brien, Dana Moore, Ethan Cochran and me.
Tomorrow night is the gig at Killroy's in Springfield. The Killroy's is in the Ravensworth Shopping Center at the intersection of Braddock Rd and Port Royal Road. This is just outside the beltway on Braddock Road (Rt-620). As you come off the beltway on Braddock Rd. take the fist left on Port Royal Rd and the shopping center and Killroy's is on the right.
We are scheduled to play at 8:00 pm. We will probably play two sets, one in the tent outside and one inside. The sets we will play are as follows.
1st Set (Let Erin Remember, Bonnie Charlie, Minstrel Boy)
2nd Set (Kelly the Boy from Killane, Inniskilling Dragoons, Wearing of the Green)
3rd Set (Garry Owen, Back to Donegal, Killaloe)
5th Set (Wings, The Rowan Tree, Scotland the Brave)
6th Set (Retreats)
7th Set (Cockney Jocks, Bonnie Lass of Fyfie)
8th Set (Patriotic Set)
Also, Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls, Amazing Grace.
Since we play at 8:00 pm, try to be there ready to go no later than 7:30!
Uniform of the day will be kilts, tee shirts and ball caps (but bring your tunics anyway ... never know what it will be like in the tent) If you don't have a Band Tee Shirt, Odie will have plenty there to issue you one and sell some to the customers. Same with ball caps.)
One last item; I spoke with Chalmers Monday, he is doing well and thanks the band for all its support, but physically and emotionally. The believe the problem was some medication he was taking. They are doing some more test to make sure that everything is the way it should be now and he expects to be playing with us at the St. Patrick's Day parades.
See you tomorrow,
Steve
If the weather get's really bad, we'll do a phone tree call down.

What
an almost wonderful day this turned out to be.
The annual Christmas Walk in Alexandria started out a
little on the cold side, but by the end of the day it
had warmed up significantly ... especially if you
were in Dorothy Farley's house! The only down
side of the day was that Chalmers Marquis fell ill
and had to be taken to Alexandria Hospital by Alex.
FD Medic 207. I spoke with him this evening and
he was in good spirits. He was admitted
overnight for observation but expects to be released
tomorrow (Sunday).
We had a good turn out, with 10 pipers and 3 drummers (plus the hood ornament). The Pipers were Steve Cochran, Ed Snyder, Gary Winemiller, Pete O'Brien, Chalmers Marquis, Clarence Soong, Dave Foley, Phil Nannery, Dana Moore and Kevin Byrnes. The drum line included Brian Brendel, Jay Rubin, Rob Agnew and Ethan Cochran. That's not too bad when you consider that we have three of our members deployed out of the area. Jeff Burton in Louisiana, Pat Carrol in Iraq and Kevin Donnelly is some place that ends with 'stan'.
The parade was a bit longer this year than it had been in the past and there were fewer pipe bands than in the past. The low number of pipe bands did not go un-noticed by some of the locals and hopefully, things will be done to reverse this trend.
The after parade gathering at Dorothy Farley's place was a smash. Dorothy has adopted us and vice versa. She not only invited us in and made us welcome with food and drink, but also provided us with more of the books from the St. Patrick's Day parade but also gave us three large framed pictures. In return we gave her one of our tee shirts which she proudly displayed for all to see.
As usual there will not be a practice next Monday as it is the Monday after a gig and normally we go into our winter hibernation until January, but we have another gig this year. Do not forget we are playing at Killroy's on Thursday, 12-15-05. I will be at the Academy on Monday the 12th for the beginners, if enough people want to show up at 8:00 we will have a regular band practice. This is not a mandatory practice as we are normally on break, but if you want to show up, we'll put a bit more polish on the Christmas tunes.
See you all on the 15th if not before.
Steve
PS, You Sheriff's dudes are more than welcome to come to the practice and Killroy's so please come and bring your pipes!
