Awesome Day In Fairfax

Ladies
and Gentlemen,
Today was AWESOME ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
The weather was just about right; we had a great turn out, 10 pipers and 4 drummers plus the hood ornament. Marching with the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department Color Guard ahead of us and fire fighters behind us, both in their Class A uniform and some in their desert "coffee stain" camo’s that they wore while serving in the Middle East, and then with the new and antique fire apparatus behind them ... suffice it to say, the crowd lining the streets loved us.
I’ll send out a full report later with all the details and some news about upcoming summer activities and our Fall schedule, but I did want to get this out quickly.
I got home this evening about 7:30 p.m. and found a phone mail message waiting for me. It was from the City of Fairfax Parks & Recreation Department and it was informing me that we won the best Drum and Bugle Corps Trophy. Now before everyone gets excited and thinks this is like the year that we won best pipe band in DC and the DC FC Pipes 7 Drums were given the best Fife & Drum Corps trophy as a consolation price because there were no fife and drum corps marching. Remember that last year we won the best Pipe Band competition in the Fairfax 4th of July parade and the prize was a blue ribbon. This year there was only one pipe band, and that was us, but t here were other drum and bugle corps in the parade.
I didn’t have long to chat with the lady tonight when I called her back because they were in the middle of their program at Fairfax High School, but I will call her back tomorrow and I’ll ask her for the details while I make arrangements to pick up our trophy.
In the mean time, enjoy the rest of your 4th of July holiday and I’ll be in touch soon.
